Fasting heals

Why Fast?

When one is fasting, the system is relatively free from regular digestion activity. This time is utilized by the body to cleanse i.e. detoxify the body of germs, chemicals, unwanted matter, excess fat etc. Any pending healing work for sickness or repairing of damages is also prioritized and worked on by the body. Hence, regular fasting is essential for maintaining a clean and healthy body.

Good frequency of fasting?

For a healthy person fasting twice a month, once every fortnight is suitable. If a person does not feel healthy and active, all the time but experiences small pain, inflexibility or difficulty with body processes e.g. digestion etc. , (s)he needs to fast once a week, regularly.

If a disease has been diagnosed, specific fasting program may be required for a few days.
An annual fasting of around 10 days - 2 weeks continuously, might greatly help to clean the system and heal multiple health problems. This shall help rejuvenate body, mind and spirit.

How to take a health oriented fast?

It's good to plan your fast prior and decide what you would / would not eat during fasting. Choose health oriented, simple and 'satvic' foods here, and avoid all kinds of over-processed, cooked-for-taste kind of foods.
Remember the purpose of fasting is to give rest to body and gain health.

When fasting for just one day in a week or fortnight, one can do strict fasting of eating only once during the day, for example or take fruits only etc.
However, when fasting is planned for few days together, one can be flexible, while observing few restrictions.

Following recommendations are important:

1. Eat meal only once, in the day, if possible.
When hungry in-between, one may take water, fresh juices, fruits, vegetable salads or a small quantity of dry-fruits, vegetable soup, roasted makhana / peanuts  etc. Avoid adding sugar, salt, spices, as best possible. Please eat minimum quantity as per essential requirement, only when hungry.

2. Do not consume any tea/coffee and fast food. Avoid processed food, restaurant food or packaged food, candies etc. during the day. Avoid fried snacks too.
Meat and Non-veg foods are not recommended during fasting. Only consume simple, vegetarian food, for better results.

3. The meal during fasting need to be light, easy to digest and minimum quantity as needed.
Few examples are: simply cooked or boiled vegetables, curd, 'sabudana' porridge,  sweet potato halwa etc.
During fasting heavy to digest grains like wheat, rice, gram flour, lentils are advised to be restricted.
Also all spices are avoided except a few like - cumin and rock-salt.

4. While fasting, take some additional rest to reduce mental or physical work (avoid as best possible). It is recommended to relax yourself, sleep properly and do some 'pranayama', meditation, 'shav asana' etc.

5. At the end of day, you may break the fast with a small quantity of fruit or juice (something light and small quantity only). Give a gap and  then have regular meal, when hungry after at least half an hour.

Proper practice of fasting can restore health and bring many surprising, miraculous benefits. Do not miss this self treatment and allow yourself a little restriction to bring about welcome, positive changes.

Avoid consuming chemicals with food products

The most natural option is the best for health. Check list of ingredients, avoid any chemicals. Choose what another living being would like to eat.

Check for manufacture date, fresh is better.

The duration of expiry is smaller on natural/organic products, hence the interval between manufacture and expiry date is smaller in organic or more natural products.

Avoid food which has undergone more machine processing, choose unrefined, pure products.

Check structure, size and color of vegetables and fruits. Avoid non-natural e.g. too big, different shape or artificial looking fruits and vegetables.

To remove chemicals, pesticides, insecticides from vegetables & fruits: Soak in water for around half or one hour.
For more cleansing from chemicals: Soak in water containing a. tamarind or b. salt  or c. boil in water for few min. This link gives more options of removing pesticides from fruits & vegetables.

So, what's wrong with a Root canal?

Root Canal Treatment is a dental procedure to save a tooth when its root has become infected or inflamed, due to a large cavity etc. During the Root Canal Treatment, the infected tooth is logically killed, by the dentist . The pulp is removed and the tooth is disconnected from nerve and blood supply, to do the RCT. This implies that though the tooth physically remains in the mouth, but it is no longer a living tooth.

Any dead organ from human body should be removed soon, not retained for long.
Have you ever noticed bone of a dead animal? It is attacked by many germs, insects and other animals. The same happens with a dead tooth inside human mouth. It is attacked by several disease causing bacteria and micro-organisms but the immunity mechanism of human body is unable to reach this tooth & fight (as it is no longer a part of the living system). Hence, RCT tooth becomes a bed for growth of germs and infection, right inside the mouth.

Dr. Weston Price, did exhaustive research on this issue of RCT, and published the dangers of Root Canal Treatment. It was concluded that it is even better to extract a really bad tooth, rather than go for RCT, which may become a  cause of other infections or diseases.

Why would dentists go for a RCT then? Dentistry currently, does not have any simple and fast solution to save teeth with deep cavities or infected roots and make the patient comfortable soon. Treating the infection of a root though ideal, may become tedius, slow and difficult process, in most cases. This approach will actually repair the damage and save life of the tooth, if given the patience and consistent effort for required time duration. Extraction is another option to help in case of a very bad tooth infection, but that's not an easily acceptable solution, for obvious reasons. Hence, Root Canal has become so popular as the solution, among dentists. It serves as an easy, short-cut procedure to kill any tooth which complains, provide an early relief to patient and receive good ROI.

Please be aware that most of the teeth which go for RCT, can be saved by following holistic / alternative healing solutions, right diet and healthy lifestyle habits. It will need some patience & bearing ability to give time for healing and practice few habits for protection of teeth regularly, with discipline. Yes, it is possible to cure a tooth of infection or decay, and revive it's health if one has faith in the healing capacity of body. The healing happens naturally, by the body  without any chemicals or side effects, and may take a few months, in most cases.
Natural health care is essential as preventive to safeguard one from further damage to teeth or another scenario of suggested RCT, in future.

In-case one has an existing RCT tooth, it becomes important to take responsibility of cleansing the mouth of any harmful bacteria, which may happen to attack this dead tooth.

Simple tips for healthy teeth

1. After eating anything - rinse your teeth with water, swishing water or gargling & cleaning mouth few times.
While bathing or when you wash your face, fill your mouth with water & swish / gargle, to clean the mouth as well.
When drinking water or liquids, keep it in the mouth, allowing to rinse for few seconds, and then take it in.

2. Once or twice everyday, add a tea-spoon of oil to a cup of lukewarm water and swish in your mouth for around 10-15 min and gargle. Oils like Arimedadhi oil, Coconut oil, Mustard oil, Seasame oil, Olive oil etc. can be used preferably in pure, unrefined, unprocessed form.

3. Do 'Seetkari pranayama' for healthy teeth and gums.
Press teeth against each other and breathe in from the mouth. This will produce a sound like 'sssss..'. Breathe out from nose.
Repeat the process minimum 7 times or for around 2-3 min.

Some Indian families teach kids to practice this exercise while urinating, which is good and makes it easy to add this to routine and repeat a few times, everyday.

4. Massage the gums with your finger using mustard oil regularly. Leave for 2 -3 min and rinse with water.
Add pinch of salt + turmeric with mustard oil & massage teeth and gums, thrice a week serves well, generally.

5. Brush your teeth for couple of minutes, twice a day - after breakfast and after dinner brushing is beneficial. Do an additional check, after brushing for any remains of food particles or plaque and make sure to get rid of the same. Use herbal / natural toothpaste. Preferably, use tree stem (e.g. Neem, Babool, Chirchita) to brush.
Do Not overbrush your teeth (avoid hard brushing for long duration). Brushing once using finger is better, when the cleanliness can be maintained.

6. Chewing is the exercise of the teeth and essential for their health.Chew your food well, until the solid is almost liquid in the mouth.
Avoid eating over-cooked, soft food all the time.

7. Do not subject teeth to very high / low temperature food. Try to eat everything slightly hotter or colder than the room temperature, as possible.
Avoid subjecting teeth to sudden temperature change. Do not take hot/cold food alternatively, one after the other, it is better to give a few minutes break.

8. Protect yourself from chemicals, artificial substances or preservatives etc. Avoid processed & packaged food & drinks.Replace these choices with fresh & natural food options every time, as best possible.

9. Avoid dentistry procedures at all times, unless it is absolutely essential.

10. If one already has teeth decay or a RCT tooth, more discipline & priority is needed for dental hygience & care. For example:
Do oil pulling (Tip 2. above) using a t-spoon of oil (without diluting or heating), swish for 20 min, twice a day.
You may also add one drop of neem oil to this oil pulling solution, once in around a week's time, for couple of months, until the infection subsides. Neem oil has antiseptic, anti fungal properties, which are useful to fight against tooth infection. However, it is also used as a pesticide, hence the quantity and frequency should be kept very low & limited, as essential.

11. Acupressure points exist for tooth and gum  issues. This natural, non-intervention treatment applied on hands/feet can work wel for dental problems too.
