On this Navratri , Apr 2022, I took up 9 days of more 'satvic', light & healthy diet challenge.
Though I generally take care of my diet and lifestyle, however following decisions made it different:
1. No heavy to digest grains like wheat, rice, gram flour etc. These replaced by lighter options of 'poha', 'sabudana', millets like 'ragi' & 'jowar' etc.
2. No pulses, lentils, gram family included
3. Most spices not allowed - like garam masala, chilly, chat masala etc. Only jeera, salt, turmeric and mustard seeds , as suitable added to a dish.
4. No onion, garlic, outside food to keep it satvic.
5. Quantity of food reduced, in all meals.
6. An extra serving of fresh, seasonal, sweet fruits was added, daily.
7. Last meal around sunset
I also followed suggestions from this post.
Observations:
Initially on 2nd, 3rd day I felt some weakness, little pain and lethargy. There was no feeling of hunger or difficulty, after initial days.
I was able to live a regular, less strenuous , active and healthy life, for remaining 6 days.
Within a week, I started feeling cleansed, light and rejuvenated.
After 9 days when I ate grains, there seemed an extra bout of energy to do more work, take some load, so that feels fantastic.
My digestive system seems healed and functional capability improved, now. Mind seems relaxed and more peaceful too.
My schedule got aligned to nature more closely, during this time and continues so.
Overall, it has been a wonderful exercise of detoxification and natural restful break from routine, for the entire biological system of body & mind.
Have you tried fasting or restricted diet for health, how did it help you?
Would like to read your comments, if any, please share below, thank you.
